The Grand Prix is another chair in the Arne Jacobsen collection originally produced in 1957 by Fritz Hansen for the Designers’ Spring Exhibition at the Danish Museum of Art and Design in Copenhagen. The chair gained its title at the Triennale exhibition in Milan where it received the highest distinction called the Grand Prix. The chair has a minimalistic design and is a striking item either alone or accompanied. The Grand Prix is also stackable which means the item is practical for various different uses and contexts.
Later that year, the chair was displayed at the Triennale in Milan where it received the ‘Grand Prix’ – the finest distinction of the exhibition. After this, the chair has always beencalled the ‘Grand Prix chair’. Originally, the Grand Prix chair was introduced with a wooden and steel base. Today, the chair is available with a steel base and is an ideal chair with a wide range of applications, such as dining, conference, office andthe private home. The slim shell is composed of 9 layers of veneer plus 2 layers of cotton textile and rests on a base made of mirror chromed or satin chromed steel in different heights. It is lightweight and stackable and is available in an extensive palette of colours, types of wood and with fabric or leather upholstery. Colour/Finish Guides: Coloured Ash, Lacquer, & Natural Wood
