The Swan chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958, was another item produced for the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen which Jacobsen had been commissioned to design. The Swan was produced alongside the Egg chair for the hotel and both items show similarities in their design. Jacobsen focused on curves and the Swan chair was designed only with curves, which at the time was extremely innovative. These curves create an aesthetically elegant piece which acts as a striking asset to the room. Similarly to the Egg, the shell is covered by a layer of foam before it is upholstered, in which there are many fabric and leather options. The Swan has a star shaped base made of satin polished aluminium which is suited to various environments.
