The 'Barcelona Suite' was originally created by the legendary modernist architect, Mies van der Rohe.
The most recognisable piece from the range is the 'Barcelona Chair', a design dedicated to the Spanish Royalty, in honour of the 1929 official opening of the German Pavilion at the Barcelona International Exhibition. It's said to be derived from his interpretation of an Egyptian Royal folding chair and a Roman folding footstool. It quickly became an icon for the era and the whole modernist movement. Exclusive manufacturing and sales rights were accorded to Knoll by the designer in 1953.

Copy watch. There are many, many copies of this classic chair. We only sell the Authorised Genuine Barcelona chair and footstool. This is distinguished from a copy in several ways, including: The signature of Mies van der Rohe is stamped into the base of each chair. Every piece is labelled with an individual production number with a corresponding certificate of identification and authenticity. The cushions are upholstered with 40 individual panels cut, hand-welted and hand-tufted from a single hide.

Construction. The stainless steel frame is hand-buffed and hand-finished to a mirror finish.
The cushions are upholstered with 40 individual panels cut, hand-welted and hand-tufted from a single hide.
Seat and back cushions adapt to fit the curve of the frame.
Side and edges of upholstery straps are dyed to match specified upholstery colour.

Choice of leather. You will notice that there are many leather options to choose from based on type and grade of leather. The standard leather grade (Grade W) is excellent quality, produced by Spinneybeck, and in a wide range of colours.
