Florence Knoll Armchair

Having studied architecture with Eliel Saarinen at Cranbrook and with Mies van der Rohe in Chicago, Florence Schust was working for Marcel Breuer and Walter Gropius when she was introduced to the charismatic businessman Hans Knoll. They married and formed Knoll Associates in 1946 when they were in their twenties.

As well as commissioning furniture from her Cranbrook colleagues she designed her own furniture, modestly calling it the “fill-in pieces that nobody else was doing…Eero and Bertoia did the stars”.  The simple, elegant design of her “fill-in pieces” has allowed them to stand the test of time.

 

Features

This versatile collection includes a lounge chair, sofa, two-seater bench and three-seater bench.

The KnollStudio logo and Florence Knoll's signature are stamped into base of each frame, to guarantee authenticity.

Construction

Inner frame is solid wood.
Exposed metal frame and legs constructed of heavy gauge tubular steel.
Seat suspension with No-Sag springs.
Arm, seat and back cushions are variable density foam welted and button tufted.
Pieces upholstered in leather have matching buttons; pieces upholstered in fabric do not have buttons.

Finishes

Metal frame finish available in either polished chrome or satin chrome.
Upholstery available in a range of fabric or Spinneybeck leather. This product is available with foam that meets requirements for BS5852.
