V11 Sofa by Illum Wikkelsø, 1965

Couch Potato Company together with Stouby Furniture A/S are proud to announce the launch of the V11 sofa to the UK & Ireland market. This sixties classic, designed by Dane Illum Wikkelsø, has been out of production for decades.

Highly sought after in the international furniture market, vintage V11 pieces are rare and fetch high prices from collectors around the world who appreciate the extraordinary craftsmanship, beautiful curves and clean lines. Considered by design hunters to be one of the premium sofa designs of the mid-century period, V11 seating can be found in the office of the Japanese president and in the collection of King Feisel of Saudi Arabia.

As sole UK & Ireland distributors for the Danish furniture company Stouby, Couch Potato Company is proud to be associated with such an exciting revival into the world of mid-century design classics. Stouby own the manufacturing and distribution license for the V11 range worldwide excluding Japan and Australia, with production starting again in Europe under license to the original design.

True to the high standard demanded by the designer almost 50 years ago, each piece is made from beginning to end by Stouby to exclusively create a piece of elegant, high quality furniture which will stand the test of time in terms of fashion and durability.

Wikkelsø, the enigma.

Wikkelsø (1919 -1999) remains one of Denmark's best-kept secrets. Very little is written about him. After graduating from The School of Arts & Crafts in Copenhagen, Wikkelsø was employed as a cabinet maker as well as by a firm of architects, where he made his considerable mark on the Danish modern design world and carried on to produce some of the countries most striking and beautifully crafted furniture. “My basic principle as an architect is that a chair must embrace the human body smoothly and tenderly” and should also “satisfy the eye and be solid and lasting”.

His wife, Marianne, said that Wikkelsø never sat straight in a chair, he thought you should be able to sit in a chair in different ways and still sit comfortably “his legs were always hanging over the armrest!”
