We love passionate designers and that is why we are the sole agents in the UK of Danish furniture brand Stouby. Stouby is dedicated to high quality, skilled craftmanship. Their furniture can be used in formal and informal settings.

Better yet, everything made by Stouby is also extremely durable and comfortable. They like to keep things exciting and have recently released some cool and exciting new pieces, see below.

1. The Biloba chair, which was inspired by the leaves from the Temple Tree- Ginko Biloba. Stouby made sure to use only the best natural Scandinavian materials when producing this chair.

2. Interdane – This armchair is extremely flexible and even has a footrest that tucks away neatly when not needed. It is a quirky little design and very comfortable with some good head support. This chair can be used in a home office or an informal office setting.

3. Concord chair with Headrest- How we love the comfortable, smooth and curvaceous concord chair! The design originally inspired by the wings of a plane, this chair has proven to be very popular. The high and low back versions can be used in home or office setting as the upholstery helps to keep them looking formal or informal. Now Thomas Pederson has gone the extra mile and designed a Concord chair with a much-needed headrest. Couple it with the footstool and you have the ultimate comfortable set!

4. Last but not least- our favourite new addition to the collection, the Mirage sofa. Modular, firm yet very comfortable. This sofa can be customised in any shape you like. It’s great because you can even upholster it in leather & fabric (both together look great!) and use different colours and add some deco stripy cushions to finish the look. We love this sofa because it can be handmade to suit your individual style. (Please call us if you would like to customise this sofa)

Some other new pieces….

Stouby never cease to excite us.. here are a few other relatively new pieces:

Frost chair- Looks smashing in a bold red colour! The Frost chair’s seat bad and buttons can be customised in different colours and fabrics/leathers.

Orca sofa – Something from the future, today. The Orca sofa enables you to customise the colour of the sides. It can be made to stand out or toned down.

Wide – A very simple yet elegant design. The “Wide” range is great for a formal setting or an office.

Have you read the news lately? It’s filled with stories of the proposed soft-drink tax and the rate of obesity in the UK and other countries. We have come to a point in time now that food is no longer a luxury and people are dying from their unhealthy habits – overeating with little exercise and leading sedentary lifestyles.

One of the worst things for your health is to be inactive. Nowadays it’s becoming even more difficult for us to actually be active. Busy lifestyles with many people holding a 9-5 desk job, the commute or drive to work for hours every morning and afternoon, eating at our desks at lunchtime…. TV Dinners after work….

How many of you have noticed that being inactive you may have pile on the pounds and often feel tired after a long day, even though you haven’t done anything physical? This is normal of today’s sedentary lifestyles.

Recent studies show that sitting too much is actually killing us -  a study that looked at 200,000 Australians over the age of 45 found that those who sat on average 11 hours a day had a 40% higher risk of dying in the next three years than those who sat for less than 4 hours a day. And perhaps even more surprising – the harmful effects of sitting cannot be undone by visiting the gym. It is the prolonged periods of sitting which does the harm.

More recently the BBC picked up on the problem: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19910888

In addition, European Government has started to think about passing law on the subject. The `European Standard Final Draft (EN 527-1) on Height Adjustable Sit Stand Desks has been issued.  This draft has raised the issues relating to employees sitting for long periods and the risk to their health as a result. The draft attempts to address these issues by placing an emphasis on the necessity for height-adjustable desks at workplaces in the EU.

This is why we have teamed up with Swedish brand Ragnars. We love the simplicity of their designs and the quality of materials used. Ragnars has been producing beautifully designed height-adjustable desks from its Swedish factory for decades. Indeed, height adjustable desks are commonplace in most of Scandinavia, as employers understand the benefits of greater productivity and fewer sick days. You too can now reap the benefits of height-adjustable desks by choosing Ragnars.

There are plenty of different desks to choose from. You can customise your finish and size. You can also choose from manual or electric adjustable. There are also many different co-ordinating storage options available from Ragnars, in a range of finishes and colours. See our collection at http://www.couchpotatocompany.com/ragnars and for more information and the entire product range visit http://www.ragnars.se/

Make 2013 the year to start looking after your health – and the health of your co-workers and/or family too. Revamp your office and invest in Ragnars.  20% off all orders in February. Visit http://www.couchpotatocompany.com/ragnars Give us a call on 020 8894 1333 for more information & quotes.

It’s that time of the year again, and for those of you who are actually going to go ahead and celebrate, there’s always something to worry about- what to get your Valentine.
This blog post is just a few ideas that we have put together to help you out when selecting a gift this Valentines Day. Note: these are out-of-the-ordinary gifts – if you are looking for the typical perfume, jewellery & clothing, then look elsewhere!
If you want to give your Valentine something they can hold onto for a number of years, sort of an “investment”, then look no further!

Something Funky:

If she likes something cool and different and needs a new bedside table or a piece that can be used in any room of the house, then look no further than the Small Ghost Buster, Kartell. It is transparent, sturdy and will last forever. We currently have Violet in-stock.

Something Cute:

“Milk” lamp. We love this as it is super cute and has an ultra cool design. Can be placed anywhere, from the table to the floor and it still lights up the room. It is made out of white glass and oak. Designed by the NORM architects Kasper Rønn & Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen, if your Valentine loves design, then this is something to think about getting them.

Something Cosy…

The stylish lovebird cushion is a perfect addition to any bedroom or lounge area. It is made out of high-quality cotton/linen and is filled with down.

Something creative:

The Masters chair by Philippe Starck incorporates the shapes of classic design pieces of the Series 7 chair by Arne Jacobsem, the Tulip armchair by Eero Saarinen and the Eiffel Chair by Charles Eames. The Masters chair can be used indoors as a dining or office chair, or outdoors. We currently have orange & black in-stock.

Something extra:

Our Shaggy Rocker covers fit snugly on the Eames RAR,  DAR, DAW and DAX chairs. They are made out of sheepskin and are a very warm and stylish addition for any of these chairs. If you know your Valentine owns any of these chairs, then you cannot go wrong with buying them this lovely Shaggy cover that we are sure they will adore.

Something for the wall:

Wall-stickers are a great addition to any wall. They add character to any room and a very easy to attach. Buy these for your Valentine if you know they love to spice up the character of their home.

Marc  Krusin is a relatively young designer but his pieces ooze luxury and attention to detail. Our favourites are the ‘Marc Krusin Collection’ designed for Knoll. The tables come in all shapes and sizes and can be specified in different wood, glass and marble finishes. The krusin chairs are wide, comfortable and cosy. They can also be specified in different coloured wood and upholstery.

We are very lucky to have been given this press release, done by Friends & Co with Marc Krusin. Marc answers all sorts of questions to Friends & Co about his work, favourite places to live and the inspiration for his designs.

Press release – Marc Krusin Q&A
What is your design process?

Usually I create the intention to design the product/ space in question but I don’t actually do anything! I don’t think about it, I don’t start sketching. I just have the intention and the commitment to design it. Then ideas start coming. And I’ve noticed that the less I think, as in the more present I am, the more the ideas flow.

How do your ideas develop?

Once the idea is clear, I make some sketches. When these are clear, I make a 2D cad drawing which, in the case of furniture, I print out in 1:1 scale, and re-work with a pen (and sometimes repeat this process many times). When the 2D drawings are clear, we will develop a 3D drawing. We adapt this little by little. In the case of furniture or product, we then move to full-scale prototypes. And then adapt and adjust until just right. During prototype development, the client is usually very involved providing useful information on cost targets, sales and marketing necessities etc.

Where do you get inspiration for your designs?

I don’t know. Certainly nowhere specific. But I’m sure somewhere in the mechanism there are influences from what we admire and what we come into contact with on a daily basis: books, cinema, and just general stuff around us.

What’s your favourite city and why?

I’ve given up trying to have favourites! I love travelling and so rather than one, there are several around the world that I am very fond of – each with its own pros and cons. But if I have to name one then it has to be London – which is why we live there. Of all the places I’ve visited and lived, London within our needs and requirements, is the most complete and balanced. Within its people there is generally a high level of respect, courtesy and awareness. There are many wonderful green areas. There are some great communities – villages within the city. There is an enormous amount of great things to. There is lots going on in the professional/creative sectors. It is well connected and so it’s easy to get to most places in the world. Generally, much care and attention appears to go into running, maintaining and constantly improving the place (as much as is possible within such a complex city).

Who are your design heroes?

Designers are not heroes to me and so I don’t have any. But I do very much admire the work of many designers and architects. Some to mention may be: Luis Barragàn, Mies Van Der Rohe, Piero Lissoni, Bouroullec brothers, Patricia Urquiola, Frank Lloyd Wright, Gio Ponti, Kensaku Oshiro… The list goes on. I also often appreciate single projects regardless of who designed them. What I really admire is when something has been done with extreme care, sensibility and love. This is immediately evident in a project. Likewise it is immediately evident when corners have been cut, when care has not been taken and when objectives other than creating excellence have got in the way.

If you weren’t a designer what would you be?

A full-time Yogi.

What’s your favourite design object?

I don’t have favourites! I could write a list of things I admire but it would be a very long one!

We currently have a lovely Krusin lounge chair in stock now, with a black lacquer frame and ultrasuede black upholstery.

I admit I was gutted when I found a dent in my cherished marble Tulip table. I remember hearing a crash (from a heavy toy I think) whilst I was preparing the kids’ dinner, but didn’t notice the dent straight away. But, thank goodness, all was not lost. I booked Marble Mike this week to come and repair the table. We had recommended Marble Mike to clients with great results, so this was a chance to see his work in action. I was keen to get the repair done quickly, as I could see that the polyester coating had been damaged so there was a risk of food, liquid and just air getting underneath and making it worse. I’m showing before and after photos so you can see how Marble Mike has worked his magic!  It took about 2 hours and I have to say it is now very hard to find the place where there used to be a dent…so my table is ready for this festive season and many more Christmases to come :)
