Charles & Ray Eames, 1950
Plastic Armchairs were first presented as part of the famed New York Museum of Modern Art competition, "Low Cost Furniture Design". Their organically shaped seat shells made of fibreglass-reinforced plastic were later combined with various different bases, such as RAR's rockers and manufactured in their millions. In their latest version made of polypropylene the Armchairs now offer even greater sitting comfort.
Certain finishes for this product are available on Quickship. Please see below.
RAR = Rocking Armchair Rod Base
We have designed a sheepskin cover which fits the Eames RAR perfectly, making the chair even more desirable. It is a perfect accompaniment to a children's nursery as it makes a lovely nursing chair and is much less cumbersome and intrusive than many traditional rocking/nursing chairs. The sheepskin cover is removable and can be hand washed and left to air-dry. You can order the cover with the chair or on its own for a chair you already own. It fits all (genuine) Eames plastic armchairs including the RAR, DAR, DAW and DAX. It is available in cream, beige, light grey, charcoal, and chocolate brown. We hold stock of the cover in cream.
