The Oxford Chair was originally designed in 1963 for use in St. Catherine's College in Oxford. The chair is the result of a furniture collection Arne Jacobsen was commissioned to design for the college by the Dean.
This collection was created in conjunction with an extension to the college, all designed by Jacobsen. The Oxford Chair has a strikingly tall back, radiating a sense of comfort and stature. This allows the chair to stand alone as a sophisticated piece of furniture, however due to the minimalistic design it also stands elegantly if accompanied by others. The chair is now modelled similarly to the original wooden chair design, but is available in a low, medium high or high back with a range of upholstery including leather and fabric.
