The Oksen was designed by Arne Jacobson in 1966, and now relaunched by Fritz Hansen in 2017 in a range of beautiful leathers. Reflecting its name - meaning 'the bull' in Danish - Oksen is big, bold and powerful. Its strong, sculptural silhouette cuts an impressive profile in a room, but it remains a comfortable and soft sitting experience. The high quality seating is softened by a foam and down seat and a foam layered neck. The seat will soften further in time as the chair slowly ages. The back of Oksen is handstitched just like the Egg while the front side is sewn.
Oksen comes in three different leather types: beautiful Elegance leather, strong Classic leather in black or Walnut, and Extreme leather in black only. The Oksen's dimensions have been increased slightly from the original design, making for a more comfortable experience for taller people. Matching footstools with an aluminium or black powder coated base are also available. If you need help choosing colours or would like to see samples, please get in touch.
Known for his organic and soft lines in designs like the Swan Chair and the Ant, Arne Jacobsen surprised design connoisseurs all over the world when he first introduced Oksen in 1966. Unlike many of Arne Jacobsen's other designs, Oksen was not designed for a specific architectural project. It was a product of years of experimenting, testing, and making. The chair was considered quite rare among critics due to its short original production period as well as its powerful look. The Oksen Lounge Chair represents edge, strength and personality and like its predecessor - the Egg - it inhabits a room like no other chair can.
We only sell the Authorised Original Oksen chair. Please visit the Real vs fake section for videos and further information.
