The Uchiwa armchair designed by Doshi Levien for Hay is an elegant, comfortable lounge chair that effortlessly combines function with style. Its intriguing shape was inspired by traditional Japanese fans, and uses clever fabric pattern folds in order to emphasise its unique silhouette.
The cosy upholstered shell is available in a diverse range of colours and fabrics, allowing a multitude of design combinations. Its low, sculptural legs are made of solid oak, in soaped and lacquered finishes. For a full range of upholstery options, including contrasting shell and seat cushions, please enquire.
The Uchiwa series began with an open brief to create an affordable armchair, and soon blossomed into a furniture series with unlimited potential. Due to clever use of pattern cutting, the chair cuts costs on stitching, making it more economical to produce. The Uchiwa is equally perfect for private and public settings, able to blend in or stand out, depending on how it is configured. Dramatize the silhouette with bolder upholstery, or opt for more subtle materials and colours for a quieter, refined effect. The many colour, upholstery and frame options allow you to fine tune the details to suit your needs, without compromising the overall design.
