Held at the Fiera Milano exhibition centre from 9th to 14th of April, Salone del Mobile Milano 2019 drew about 400,000 visitors and 2,400 exhibitors from over 180 counties.
The furniture Industry descends on Milan annually to show new designs and product updates throughout their Showrooms and at the Fiera Milano. This year did not disappoint: from Brera to the Fair, we saw emblematic and classic designs, eccentric and artistic installations & trends for next year.
Vitra:
For this year's Salone, Vitra presented 4 scenes at its stand:
- The Global Entrepreneur
Soothing and modern with nude tones, this scene highlighted the updated Suita Sofa and introduced the luxurious Grand Relax lounge chair designed by Antonio Citterio.
By the end of Summer, the new version of the Suita Sofa will be launched. It's been designed to improve comfort thanks to a more sophisticated upholstery structure. The Sofa will be also available in leather.
- The Bohemian
An eclectic and inviting scene with various textures and styles.
- The Nomad
Focused on the work environment, Vitra proposed a colourful scene with a few Eames Segmented Dining Tables and Rookie chairs, as well as a large display of Artek shelving.
- The Collector
A vibrant setting - part home, part gallery with strong colours and bold fabrics, expressing modern urbanism. Nelson’s Coconut chair was upholstered in a bold new graffiti-like Kvadrat fabric, which transformed the chair.
To complete the 4 scenes, Vitra launched 9 new colours in Hopsak fabric for this summer. The updated colours create a link between the Eames Fiberglass Chairs and the Eames Plastic Chairs. Now, Vitra can offer over 100.000 possible combinations!

Fritz Hansen:
Called "Room for Imagination", their stand was presenting several living spaces. The Lounge Chair JH97 was introduced during Milano Design week at their Showroom in Brera and at the fair. Jaime Hayon described its lounge chair as "the perfect balance between past and future". JH97 could appear as a classic lounge chair at first sight but the law-lounge silhouette gives a modern touch to the piece of furniture. Made to be as comfortable as possible, the angle suits perfectly the body to permit people to rest for a while or simply enjoy a cup of tea.
The Fritz Hansen PK54 Round Table was stunning at both the fair and their Showroom. This is the only round table we know that can be extended to a larger round table.
4 new colours for the Drop Chair have been presenting at the fair: Blushing Millennial Pink, Sunny Gen Z Yellow, Calming in Doubt Blue & Mid Grey hue.
To celebrates its history as a manufacturer and a design leader, Fritz Hansen introduced Christianshavn textile by Fritz Hansen. Named after an area of Copenhague, a palette of 26 colours has been launched - made with 85% wool and 15% of Nylon, the soft and high-quality textile will look stunning on Fritz Hansen's furniture.
